At 12:01am on August 1, 1981, history was made when MTV, the first 24-hour video music channel, launched onto our television sets and literally changed our lives with the birth of the music video. The first video ever played on the network was quite ironic — “Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles.
13,704 days later I find myself uploading a promotional video for my talk onto YouTube. Oh my, have the times changed!
My name is Dennis Gillan and I speak on mental health/suicide prevention and the only reason I have a “promo video” is that prospective clients keep asking for one. This is all new to me. You must market yourself big time in this business and that is not good because I stink at marketing. The talk is really good and very much needed, but the marketing gene is not in my DNA. So, I hired a guy to follow me for two days because that’s what you do when you are a professional speaker, or so I am told!
